International Rose Test Garden in Portland, Oregon

By  |  8 Comments

The International Rose Test Garden primary purpose is to serve as the testing grounds for new rose varieties, but it’s also a fantastic free garden to visit in Portland.  And, if you are weird and don’t really care for pretty flowers, then go for the amazing view of the city.  There is an annually award given to the best rose introductions called The City of Portland Gold Medal Awards.  This is the oldest rose testing program in the United States and Portland is the only North American city to issue this kind of an award.  So, basically you’re looking at a one of a kind deal here folks.  Here are some of my favorite photos from my visit there, and yes I did get a little too preoccupied with the close-ups, so there’s that…

I love visiting gardens, and I am making it my aim to visit as many National Trust properties here in the UK as possible – luckily I travel around quite a bit with my job, so I have been to quite a few so far! Best £25.00 membership fee ever spent, as once a member, you can visit as many gardens as you like for free.

And my favourite colour rose is yellow. They always look so cheerful, even on a cloudy day.

That sounds like quite a deal actually. You’ll have to let me know some of your favorites for next time I’m in the UK.

I also love yellow roses. I just love the color yellow period, even if it might look terrible on me.

Next time I’m in the UK, I hope it’s for a lengthy time. I’ve been twice and not long enough either time.

I didn’t know there were either. I wish I had taken more photos that day so people could see how big these gardens were. They were even setting up for a wedding…I bet that was pretty 🙂
