love affair with travel

I’ve been having an affair guys.  A love affair that blows all my other loves out of the water.  And, it’s been going on for quite some time.  While I have not always been attentive or loyal to other loves and while there have been longer periods of time than I care to mention where I went without traveling, my heart has always remained faithful to it.

I have loved travel for as long as I can remember–maybe I didn’t think about it a deep, insightful way when I was young, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t love it any less.  I grew up going on tons of road trips, spending summers on my grandparents’ race horse farm in upperstate New York, and spending time in Miami with family.  Any chance there was to go somewhere new, no matter the reason, I was always excited.  Thanks to my grandparents, I’ve had the chance to go to Europe several times and all over the United States.  The things about travel that tend to annoy some people, like airports, I approached with great enthusiasm.

I’ve been through heartbreaks, devastations, abuse, and more, but travel has always been there for me.  Even through the bad days–Missing trains (and planes!), sitting next to the worst smelling person on a 18-hour flight, not knowing  which stop to get off of because you can’t speak the language at all, being sick on the road–I still remained faithful to it.

The difference between other loves and travel is that travel, while it can let me down occasionally, will always, always be there for me.  No matter what it puts me through, it will always make up for it in the end.

Looking out the window as I approach a place I’ve never been before.  People watching in airports-wondering what their story is and where they are going.  Trying authentic food in a new place.  Getting to know locals.  Watching the sun set, knowing you get to watch it in a whole new place the next night.  All these wonderful experiences make up for the bad days.  And, for that reason, I will continue my love affair with travel. wants to make sure your Valentine’s Day is special. I love that you’re having a love affair with travel, and I wish I had more time and energy to see more places because, like you, I adore it. There’s something so refreshing about being someplace new and just exploring and seeing what happens.

Thanks for hosting this giveaway, too! What fun!

Hi Ashley. That quote at the top is one of my favorite ones! And I like what you said about travel – it will always be there. Whether we travel near or far, there’s always a way to be on the road. It’s a state of mind, after all. 🙂

Oh, I love travel. When I’m really having a blast and going going going its like some foreign film with an Instagram filter hahaha! Gas stations in the middle of the night in strange cities become fun.

Hmmm, think travel is jealous, at all, that we’re all having the same affair?
