Things to do in Nashville this Month | October 2015


What does October in Nashville mean?  Lots of drinking, obviously!  And, then obviously lots of food and music.  You can definitely get your fill of beer festivals this month!  I, myself, will be attending the Cultural Festival, Oktoberfest, Southern Festival of Books, and the Day of the Dead Tequila Festival.  Look out for my Nashville specific Halloween post with all the amazing Halloween events going on this month!

3 | Nashville Brew Festival

The event will feature over 50 breweries, including Nashville’s best breweries, as well as food trucks, music, lawn games and more.

3 | Nashville Cultural Festival

Celebrate culture and diversity at the 19th Annual Nashville Cultural Festival!  Food, performances, vendors from all over the world!

Free music, food trucks, local artisans…basically, Nashville!

4 | Jazz on the Cumberland

Featuring some of the best local, regional, and national jazz artists.  There will also be food trucks and concessions!

9-11 | Oktoberfest

Come to the 36th Annual Nashville Oktoberfest!  This is Nashville’s oldest-running festival & a Tennessee tradition since 1980 – the Oktoberfest is now the South’s largest Fall Festival.

Delicious food from 25+ restaurants & food vendors,  craft and imported beers from local & German breweries, kids & family events, 100+ Arts & Crafts vendors, 3 music stages, Wiener Dog races, Tennessee’s 2nd largest 5K run – and so much more!

9-11 | Southern Festival of Books

The Southern Festival of Books is a free event that offers readers and writers an opportunity to interact, to create a public community around a festival that promotes and celebrates the joy of reading and of lifelong learning. Each year the Festival brings to Nashville approximately 200 of the nation’s and region’s most prominent authors.

10 | Music City Bacon + Barrel Festival

Celebrate two commonly appreciated southern traditions: hearty food & distilled spirits. We will bring together 25 of Nashville’s best restaurants and a vast array of distilled spirits brand to savor a weekend of bacon, bbq and all the good things that come from old oak barrels.

17 | Nashville Street Food Awards

A free, public, all-ages event, will include more than 25 NFTA members participating in a friendly competition.  A panel of judges will sample blind entries from the trucks in a variety of street food categories, with winners named throughout the event. Participating trucks include Bacon Nation, Bao Down, Bradley’s Curbside Creamery, Chapmans II, Coco’s Italian Market, Dawg Daze, Deg Thai, Electric Sliders, Grilled Cheeserie, Hoss’ Loaded Burgers, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, Julia’s Bakery, Lil Choo Choo BBQ, Maggie Moo’s Mobile, Moovers & Shakers, Music City Brisket, Music City Rice & Roll, Nashville Burrito Co., Riffs Fine Street Food/Funk Seoul Brother, The Rolling Feast, Sehrt Seafood, Smoke Et Al, Smoothie King, Steaming Goat, and Taste of Nature.

17 | Cornelia Fort Pickin’ Party

Bluegrass, local craft beer, and good food!  Proceeds benefit the airpark which closed due to the 2010 flood.

23-25 | Nashville Flea Market

The Nashville Flea Market is one of the best flea markets in the country.  I’ve told people traveling here to check it out if it falls on the weekend they are coming (4th weekend of every month; 3rd weekend in December).  It’s huge and you can find just about everything from expensive antiques to a pack of gum.  Check out my write-up on the market over at Souvenir Finder.

30 | Day of the Dead Tequila Festival

Try out tequilas (ticket includes 15 samples), eat tacos from Local Taco, dress up for the costume contest and more!
