Travel Movie of the Week : Love Actually
Given Christmas is in just two days, I wanted to include a movie that had to do with the holidays as well. One of my all time favorite Christmas movies is Love Actually. While it isn’t specifically about travel, it still has a bit of it going on and the fact that it’s set in the London, makes me want to go there even more than I already do.
Love Actually revolves around ten separate stories that by the end of the movie seem to be interlinked. It begins at the start of the holiday season and the stories progress as it gets closer to Christmas. The stories involve unrequited love, love with language barriers, infidelity, childhood love, love in the workplace, love found in unexpected circumstances, and love found while traveling.
While primarily set in London, there are several instances of travel. Colin goes to America to find love there convinced that being British will help him. Jamie goes to his French cottage-after catching his girlfriend cheating on him with his brother, of course. There he meets his Portuguese housekeeper whom he falls in love with and learns Portuguese in order to tell her.
The cast is also fantastic. With Alan Rickman (think Snape from Harry Potter) and Andrew Lincoln (think Rick from The Walking Dead) and I’m of course sold. Others include Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Bill Nighy, Laura Linney and so on.
Love Actually really should be on your holiday & travel movie list.
