Wednesday Wanderlust: South Africa
I’ve been putting off South Africa in my wanderlust series because it is one of my top dream destinations, if not the top one. I’ve always felt a strong connection to Africa even though I’ve never been and I have a very good feeling that once I actually make it there, I won’t be leaving quickly. So, I’ve stopped putting it off and have put together some of the things I’m looking forward to seeing and doing once I finally make it to South Africa:
Storms River is located on the coast and is home to an awesome looking footbridge and the Tsitsikamma Forest.
Kruger National Park
If Africa is my dream destination, then a safari is my dream adventure. Kruger is Africa’s oldest established wildlife park and includes the “Big Five” – lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards and cape buffalo – as well as hippos (AHHH!-mild obsession), crocodiles, giraffes, cheetahs and many more.
Ride an Ostrich
I would love to head to Oudtshoorn to the Safari Ostrich Show Farm where ostriches can be seen in their natural habitat and of course, so I can look absolutely ridiculous while riding one.
Besides riding an ostrich, what else can I do in Oudtshoorn?? Get in the water with a crocodile, of course!
Backpack the Wild Coast
The Wild Coast is a desolate, spectacular region along the coastline. I would love to backpack this region. There’s so much to do from horseback riding, hiking, and surfing – I say that like I actually know how to surf – while staying in a family home or a hostel at night.
Amatola Forest, Hogsback
The Amatola Forest in Hogsback is the location that supposedly inspired Tolkein. That’s a good enough reason for me to visit right there!
Great White Shark Cage Diving
He (or she) looks hungry! Sharks have always fascinated me, and a lot of other people I’m sure or we wouldn’t have an entire week of television devoted to them. Cage diving with great white sharks is in the top animal adventures I absolutely must to do and South Africa is one of the best places to do it.
Basically, I just want to get in the water with a bunch of animals that could kill me and see some awesome scenery. Sounds about right.
Would you want to see or do any of these things in South Africa? What else would you add to the list?
