Weekly Wanderlusting: Egypt

By  |  2 Comments

Keeping in tradition of picking a random spot on the map and lusting over it, Egypt is this week’s focus.  Everyone, of course, thinks of the pyramids when they think of Egypt, but there is so much more to this fascinating country.  I’m going to highlight a few of things that I definitely don’t want to miss when I visit Egypt.

The White Desert is located in Western Egypt in Farafra.  This white and cream colored desert has chalk rock formations from the result of sandstorms that make for some amazing photos.  I’d love to do an overnight camping safari here in order to see both the sunrise and sunset.

Giza holds the most famous Egyptian pyramids including the Pyramid of Khufu which is the largest Egyptian pyramid.  It is also the only of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World still in existence.

Library of Alexandria was once one of the largest and most significant libraries of the ancient world, but was destroyed during a fire.  The new Library of Alexandria is a commemoration of the old library that was lost.  I’m a sucker for libraries, especially one that has such an ancient history.

The Alabaster Mosque, or the Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha, is located in the Citadel of Cairo.  This is one of the biggest landmarks and the most visible mosque in Cairo.

These are just a few of the places I would love to see in Egypt.  Egypt is also supposed to be home to some of the best diving in the world.  While, I’m no diver yet, I would love to be by the time I make it here.

What about you?  Anything or anywhere in Egypt you’re doing to see or do??
